Tar Heel 10 Miler and Fleet Feet 4 Miler

It’s not too early to start planning and preparing!

We are pleased to announce exciting opportunities for Town employees to train for, and participate in, the Tenth Annual Tar Heel 10 Miler and Fleet Feet 4 Miler.

The event will be held on April 26, 2014, the 10 miler and 4 miler benefit the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA’s We Build People Campaign. The route through downtown Chapel Hill, the UNC campus and the surrounding historic neighborhoods is a great way to celebrate springtime in Chapel Hill!

The event organizers, Endurance Magazine, together with the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership and Fleet Feet Sports, are offering reduced entrance fees to Town employees until January 31st. AND for the first 50 registrants, the Town will provide special TOCH team shirts! ALL registrants will receive an official race t-shirt and finishers will receive a unique Finisher’s Medal.

TAR HEEL TRAINING GROUP

For employees who are new to the idea of participating in a race, the Town Wellness Committee is excited to announce a free Tar Heel Training Group!

Emily Powell, from TOCH Fire, will lead a 12-15 week program to prepare beginning runners for the Fleet Feet 4 Miler.

A 4 mile walk/run or run is both doable and rewarding! This is a complete program, not a drop in run.

A true team, the group will meet 2 times a week for evening runs. The Tar Heel Training Group is for both beginning runners AND experienced runners to help motivate and serve as group leaders. Contact Emily Powell at epowell@townofchapelhill.org or call 336-508-0636.
